names
The thing I get asked about the most is their names. TLDR; Their names are of Greek origin, "Kima" comes from the word for "wave", "Nisaki" comes from the word for "little island" - though I chose to romanize them a bit differently. Kima is pronounced KEE-mah. Nisaki is pronounced nee-SAH-kee.
I chose them because I liked them phonetically and thematically; I had the image of a wave crashing against an island and that went on to inform their whole dynamic. They're just nouns, though, and aren't actual Greek names - I chose them anyway, because these characters only existed in an entirely fictional world at the time. I've since moved them to a real world setting, which necessitated that I do something about it, because the names don't make sense on multiple levels. I didn't want to get rid of them entirely, so I gave them functional birth names, and carried over the originals as nicknames. Nisaki's birth name is Nisios, Kima's is Kymodoki.
You might see me spell Nisaki as Nysaki, which is the original spelling I used when I first made him. I as the creator still spell it with the y out of years of habit, but "canonically" in universe it is spelled Nisaki.
You might also see Nisaki referred to as:
Nisio - Real name in the vocative
Niki, Ni - Nicknames
Nysaki / Ny - Alternate spellings
You might also see Kima referred to as:
Kiki, Ki - Nicknames
Kikoula - Nickname, ki-'koo-lah. The only one who really calls him this is Nisaki
Note of interest; While Nisaki is referred to by everyone else as Nisaki, Kima is the only one who almost exclusively calls him by his real name, Nisios.
